Assessment and Evaluation of Students' Achievement

YIPS adheres to all the guidelines and regulations of the Ontario Ministry of Education, including Growing Success.

At YIPS we differentiate between three types of assessment:

Assessment FOR Learning is the process of seeking and interpreting evidence for the use of learners and their teachers to decide where the  learners are in their learning, where they need to go, and how best to go there.

Assessment AS Learning is the process of the explicit fostering of students’ capacity over time to be their own best assessors.

Assessment OF Learning provides evaluative statements about the level of achievement of students.

Only the marks achieved through the assessment of learning process will count towards the student nal grade. There is no repeat or second attempt for the assessment of learning.

The Final Grade:

A final grade is recorded for every course and a credit is granted and recorded for every course in which the student’s grade is 50% or higher. The final grade in the form of a percentage grade for each course will be determined as follows:

  • Seventy per cent of the grade will be based on evaluations conducted throughout the course. This portion of the grade should reect the student’s most consistent level of achievement throughout the course, although special consideration should be given to more recent evidence of achievement.
  • Thirty per cent of the grade will be based on a final evaluation in the form of an examination, performance, essay, culminating activity and/or other method of evaluation suitable to the course content and administered towards the end of the
    course.
